EL COLOMBIANO was able to establish that six EPS—Compensar, Sura, Salud Total, Coosalud, Mutual Ser and Nueva EPS—agreed with the Government on the articles of a new health reform with which they would become health and life managers, in the model proposed by Gustavo Petro. Which would imply changes in the functions they have had in the last 30 years.

This is part of the announcement made on April 12 by the Ministry of Health about the intention of six insurers to support the health reform and become such managers, which, as this newspaper reported, got more people into trouble. one and even caused the resignation of Carmen Eugenia Dávila from the executive direction of Gestarsalud.
A source who was at the working tables between the EPS and the Government confirmed that these six accepted the conditions to become managers, the role in the new health model and their functions.
In that sense, these agreed points are concentrated in 12 articles of the 47 that make up the new health reform proposal that the Government is preparing to present to Congress.

According to this document, the transformation to health and life managers implies, in white terms, that they have fewer functions, which are fundamental for the health system: such as the management of financial risk and health risk, which they perform through the control of health spending. That is, so that the health money reaches year after year. Likewise, the addressing of the networks should be managed by the territorial health secretariats.
This is part of the Gustavo Petro Government’s moves to implement a preventive and predictive health model, which translates into one that prevents the disease and not cures it.
The announcement was preceded by the announced “100 permanent work sessions” announced by the president with the main heads of the EPS.
