My best tricks to always keep in mind all the photos and videos that I save on the iPhone

I’m not lying when I say I have over 70,000 photos on my iPhone. What’s more, I’m even falling short by being closer to the next round figure. At the time of writing these lines I have 77,412 photographs and 8,263 videos. It has a certain trick because, apart from what I have been accumulating on the iPhone for years, I have also added a good part of the photo library that I have been accumulating all my life (including other smartphones).

The fact is that, as you can imagine, it tends to be a gigantic trunk from which rescuing memories can be an impossible task. And that’s how it is at first, but I have several tricks to always find what I want and, at the same time, become aware of my memories.

Three settings to always have photos located

Proof of the huge amount of photos and videos that I store on the iPhone

I already talked to you a while ago about the way I organize my photo albums on the iPhone, but ultimately, a good part of it, so as not to get lost in so much photography, involves these three settings that I’m telling you about now. And that together they serve me always locate the photograph I want and when I want through the powerful search engine of the ‘Photos’ app:

  • Create albums for special occasions like birthdays, concerts and so on. Sometimes I don’t even differentiate them by years or people. I simply place them in an album with the same theme so I know they are all there.
  • Tag people, something that is done by sliding up a photo and clicking on the icon in which that person appears. With people who are very recurring in my photos, I always do it. Based on confirming a few photos, the system is able to identify all the photos in which they appear and when I want to find photos of that person, it is much easier. In fact, I can combine the search with additions like other people to find photos in which they appear together or add things like “portrait” to find more artistic ones in which they appear with the background blurred.
  • Activate location for the cameraso that all the photographs are located in the place where they were taken and that way it can be as simple as searching for that place and finding all the photos and videos that I took there.

The ‘For you’ tab and a reminder of memories

As I said at the beginning, it is easy with such a large number of photographs to see them all. I recognize that there are many that I simply pass over and others that may not be seen again for years. However, it does not happen with all of them. I like nostalgia and there is nothing better than access the content that the iPhone itself generates in the ‘For you’ tab from the ‘Photos’ app.

There we find numerous ways to remember moments, especially highlighting those automatic montages that the system makes with photos and videos of a certain event, adding music that (don’t ask me how) is always appropriate for the occasion. If they are also memories in which more people appear, being able to share them through WhatsApp or Telegram is wonderful. They appreciate it very much.

Likewise, also I have a habit of searching for today’s content, but in previous years. That is, if it is May 5, I use the app’s search engine and enter “May 5”, so that all the photos and videos taken on May 5 appear regardless of the year.

Yes, I know that the iPhone sometimes suggests those memories in the aforementioned ‘For you’ tab, but it is not always exact with the dates and this way I make sure that I find the content recorded on that exact date. And don’t you see what memories come to me. It’s quite a stroke of nostalgia to know what I was doing exactly one year ago, two years ago… ten years ago. Because we believe that we do not change, but life does not happen quickly.

Yes indeed, I warn sensitive people of the problematic nature of these memories. In my case, related to people and pets that are no longer there. It’s nice to remember them and this is a great way, but if your stupid day catches you, it’s better not to start looking for anything. I came to have a recurring reminder to not forget to review those memories every day, but sometimes I just don’t feel like it, but doing it from time to time is the best. More so if you accumulate a lot of memories, even if you don’t reach an amount as brutal as mine.
