“The key is to be consistent in training and give it your all, both on and off the court.” Thus she began by describing the achievements of Sol Guevara from San Juan, who for several years has lived in the province of La Rioja, a place that adopted her to develop her career in medicine as well as her love for volleyball. The center is part of the team from the Physical Education Center 5 that became champion of the Argentine Women’s Volleyball League. Guevara spoke with HUARPE DIARY and explained how she lived the experience of being Argentine champion, as well as what her journey was like to reach Rioja lands.

For the first time in history and beating Estudiantes de La Plata, the Physical Education Center became champion of the women’s league.

With pasture in the club of the National University of San Juan, the center began playing volleyball at the age of 11, after not being able to continue at the Music School because the schedules did not coincide. “I started at the U and I loved volleyball there. I continued playing there until I came to La Rioja when I started studying Medicine and from there I went to Center 5 to play and continue with volleyball. Without intentions of anything, everything happened, it just happened,” said the woman from San Juan.

In parallel to her university career, Sol began playing at the Physical Education Center 5 and there she met her teammates, with whom she would later win the first title in the history of the women’s branch of the institution. The “Naranjitas” emerged champions of the Argentine Women’s Volleyball League, winning 2 to 0 in the series against Estudiantes de La Plata, with sets of 3 to 0 in each match. The Naranjitas had a historic championship, where they won 14 victories and only one defeat.

“Things have been happening since November, we made a lot of effort and the main objective was always to become champions. We are happy to have achieved it, but I think the key was to be consistent. Off the court we created a very nice bond with the girls and I think that was reflected on the court,” Guevara said.

He also said that he had to face moments where he had to choose which of his two passions to prioritize, medicine or volleyball. “It is complicated but it is possible. When he had practices he told the coach that he couldn’t train, there was no other way. During the summer I focused more on volleyball than on studying,” added the center. She explained that she tried to do both things together, but “in the end you don’t end up doing either 100% and it doesn’t work.” This summer his priority was volleyball for the championship, but he clarified that his goal for the moment and in the near future is to obtain a medical degree.

Sol celebrating the victory with his fundamental pillar, both off and on the court, his family.

Last but not least, she highlighted that her driving force to move forward is her family, whom she had not seen since the new year, so it was an emotion and a special feeling that those she loves the most have come to support her in the final to the Superdome of La Rioja. “I hadn’t seen my family since January 3, which was the day I had to return to training. I am here for them, for their support. Seeing my grandmother, my uncles and my entire family supporting me is very nice. Being far away sometimes you feel like you can’t do it, but with them you realize that you can,” concluded the San Juan plant.
