More than 500 Cuban migrants have been returned to Cuba so far in 2024, after the arrival this Friday of a flight from the Bahamas, with 26 rafters from different provinces such as Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus and Ciego de Ávila.

There are 34 returns from different countries in the region with 505 people in 2024.”
So far this year, a total of 34 migrant repatriation operations have been carried out, consolidating an upward trend in this type of actions. The majority of these returns come from the United States, a country that in the last week alone has handed over three groups of irregular migrants to the Cuban authorities.
Two of these groups were intercepted on the high seas by the North American Coast Guard, while the third arrived by air to the island. Many of these returned Cuban rafters have outstanding accounts with the Cuban justice system and end up in prison after violating parole or being sought for a pending case.
Cuba: more than 500 Cuban migrants returned
In recent months, among these more than 500 Cuban migrants returned to the island, there have been cases of desperation, which we have echoed in our pages. This is the case of an entire family that was deported to Cuba despite having I-220A documentation. The family arrived in the United States in November 2021 and their asylum request was denied.
However, they were allowed to remain on probation while awaiting a hearing in Immigration Court.
A misunderstanding with scheduling an ICE interview led to the family’s deportation. The family’s attorney filed a motion to reopen the case, but she was denied. An appeal is pending before the Board of Immigration Appeals.
They now ask from Cuba for an immediate review of their case and implore to return to the United States.
