Mental well-being in Colombia has shown improvements since the start of the pandemic, however, progress has been gradual. Factors such as poor diet, excessive use of technology and social distancing remain key concerns that require attention.

According to the most recent report “The State of the World,” published by Sapien Labs in collaboration with the World Mind project, the decline in mental well-being persists globally, with little sign of recovery since 2020.

The study, which surveyed 500,000 people in 71 countries in 13 languages, uses the Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) and various dimensional landscapes to assess people’s ability to cope with stress and function productively in daily life.

Colombia is in eighth place in Latin America. Our country stands out in adaptability, resilience and drive, but shows weaknesses in areas such as social aspects and humor.

It is worrying that, three years after the start of the pandemic, there have been no significant changes in mental well-being globally. Experts are raising questions about whether the effects of the pandemic will be permanent and whether new routines, such as remote work and distance communication, have become too normalized.

Addressing these challenges is essential to avoid a normalization of deteriorating mental well-being, which could have devastating long-term consequences for society.
