The Colombian tropical music composer Rafael Campo Miranda died in Barranquilla at the age of 105, the Society of Authors and Composers (Sayco) reported this Saturday.
“Sayco informs that the teacher Rafael Campo Miranda, glory of our Colombian folklore, has just died at the age of 105 in Barranquilla. We deeply regret his departure and we sympathize with his children and other relatives in this painful moment QDEP,” the organization published in social network
Campo Miranda, born in Soledad in 1918, is the author of internationally recognized songs such as “Playa, brisa y mar”, performed by Billo’s Caracas Boys and Lucho Bermúdez; “Lamento náufrago”, which had versions by the orchestra of Pacho Galán and Chucho Sanoja, and “Pájaro Amarillo”, by Los 50 by Joselito and Bovea and their vallenatos.
Relatives of the composer reported that he had been suffering from pneumonia for several days, so he had to be transferred to a clinic in the city where they determined that he should have oxygen support due to respiratory problems.
Margarita Campo Vives, daughter of the musician, indicated that the burial and funeral will be held on Sunday at the Jardines de la Eternidad cemetery, in the north of Barranquilla.
The Mayor’s Office of Soledad, the town where Campo Miranda was from, issued a statement in which it regrets the death and indicates that “he constituted a true pillar for the cultural and musical heritage of the Caribbean region, leaving as a legacy some of the most important pieces of the musical repertoire of Colombia”.
