American actor Bill Cobbs, known for his roles in more than 150 television series and films such as ‘The Bodyguard’, died on Tuesday at the age of 90 at his home in California, his family announced on Wednesday.

“A beloved companion, big brother, uncle, foster father, godfather and friend, Bill recently joyfully celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by his loved ones,” his brother, Thomas Cobbs, wrote on Facebook, adding that he died “peacefully” at home.

With a half-century career as an actor, Cobbs participated in films such as ‘The Bodyguard’, where he acted alongside Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, and ‘Night at the Museum’ alongside Ben Stiller.

He also appeared in series such as ‘The Sopranos’, ‘The West Wing’, ‘Good Times’, ‘Sesame Street’ and ‘My Wife and Kids’.

In 2020 he won a Daytime Emmy Award for his appearance in the Canadian children’s series ‘Dino Dana’.

Cobbs, whose face became familiar to audiences in numerous productions, is considered one of the most prominent African-American actors of his generation.
