Milei authorized a new increase in the cost of patenting and transferring cars

In what represents another blow to the pockets of motorists, the Ministry of Justice headed by Mariano Cúneo Libarona decided to apply a new increase in all the forms used in the Automotive Registries.

This involves form 01 of initial registration until 08 of transfer.

In January, an increase had already been applied to all these forms.

Now, the increases would be, on average, around 40%, according to sector sources.

In addition, the Government decided to increase the income received by those in charge of records, which had been stopped since October of last year.

The Executive argued that the increase corresponds to inflation. “Without increases, the Ministry of Justice would be left without income because car sales dropped a lot,” they said from the portfolio.

As soon as it took office, the Government aimed at a deep digitalization of all procedures, but that process has not yet materialized.

The changes appear in DNU 823. There are 13 articles that modify articles and subsections of a 1958 decree that was later ratified by a 1997 law, during the government of Carlos Menem, where the legal regime of the automobile is regulated.

Then, the Government launched an audit of 141 records that were already intervened. In that list there are 42 records from the province of Buenos Aires, 13 from the City of Buenos Aires, 10 from Córdoba, 10 from Entre Ríos, 6 from Chaco, among others.

A digital inspection of another 25 records was also launched.

“We are going to analyze variables such as the deadlines in which the registries complete the different procedures, see if there are irregularities, if people receive good service. If we detect problems, which may arise from negligence or incompetence, but also from illegal acts, the next stage is on-site inspection,” they explained from the Justice portfolio.

In addition to increasing the forms, the Government decided to increase the income received by those in charge of the Registries.

On average, the increase was 60%. “This measure tends to guarantee the correct and efficient provision of the public service in charge of these operational units, through a quality service in accordance with the value of the affected assets,” says a resolution signed by the Minister of Justice Mariano Cúneo Libarona. and published in the Official Gazette.

That same resolution highlights that the amounts were frozen since October of last year and that the increases granted do not reflect the inflation of recent months.

“The proposed increases for both the registration fees and the minimum amounts and limits of the amounts received by the Registry Officers are lower than the inflationary indices recorded since the last modifications introduced in these regulations,” details the resolution dated April 12. .

The union that represents the managers has been demanding for a long time that the emoluments be raised.

“More than three months have passed and we have not had any type of contact that would allow us to foresee a prompt measure that at least helps to partially alleviate the lack of financing that we have been suffering. No Ministry authority in charge contacted us, finding us, in addition to the critical economic situation, with a state of uncertainty about the future,” said the Association of Records Keepers (AAERPA).

That same note stated that the situation was “unsustainable” and highlighted that it had led to resignations of managers and dismissals of employees.
