This Saturday, April 27, the BiosFERIA event “Seeding Culture” will be held to promote healthy and sustainable practices for the community, the exchange of experiences and access to local knowledge and seeds, for the development of urban agriculture. It will be in Neuquén capital, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on the grounds of the University Club, located next to the “Beto Monteros” Sports Center –El Escondido-, where the UNCo Urban Garden operates.

“These socio-productive projects are government policies that offer immediate responses to increasingly growing social demands, linked to agri-food production and healthy eating for Neuquén families,” highlighted Aldo González, director of the PRODA Program, as part of the lines of work supported by the Ministry of Production and Industry of the province, and promoted by the Undersecretariat of Production headed by Marcelo Zuñiga.

The initiative seeks to promote healthy and sustainable practices for the community, the exchange of experiences and access to local knowledge and seeds for the development of urban agriculture. There will be composting workshops, talks and conversations for the exchange of experiences, knowledge and seeds for agroecological food production, and a fair for local entrepreneurs.

Gardeners from the different productive units and neighborhood initiatives carried out by the PRODA Program will participate in the meeting, who will share their experiences and contribute with seedlings and seeds of their own production. They will also seek to accompany the proposal based on their long history and history as key actors in agri-food development and the policies that strengthen Urban Agriculture in the province of Neuquén.

It is an inter-institutional activity, accompanied by the PRODA Agri-Food Development Program, of the Secretariat of Production and Industry of the province, in conjunction with the Secretariat of University Welfare of the UNCo and groups of students from different faculties.

The UNCo garden has space for agroecological cultivation, a greenhouse for the production of seedlings, and as a model experience, the composting of organic remains from the university dining room is carried out there.

In this way, from the recovery of this waste, and based on agroecological practices that promote the circular economy, environmental care and sustainability in the context of the climate crisis, a nutritious product is generated for the enrichment of the soil and the food production in an organic and healthy way.

The community is invited to join the experience of producing food in a collective space such as the Urban Gardens. On the website www.proda.gob.ar you will find the map of Urban Gardens, to locate the garden closest to your home.
