Carola Mir, wife of former Catalan president Quim Torra, dies at 58

Carola Mir i Bedswife of the ex-president of the Generalitat Quim Torradied this Saturday night at the age of 58, after more than nine years of fighting cancer.

Mir died accompanied by her husband and her three children -Carola, Guillem and Helena- in the Santa Caterina de Salt Hospital (Girona)as reported by the former Catalan president in a statement.

Born in Barcelona in 1965, Mir studied teaching in Blanquerna and was a teacher at the Thau School in Barcelona, ​​until she was forced to leave classes due to illness.

“Her kindness, dedication to others, generosity, struggle and unconditional love for family, friends, students and the country have characterized her life until the end. Throughout her career she has been very involved and has collaborated in foundations, associations and various volunteers,” the statement said.

According to the will of Carola Mir, who “was always a very discreet person and who I avoid any role“, the farewell ceremony will take place “in the strictest family privacy and without protocol service.”

Torra, who has suspended the events he had planned for the coming days, has expressed his “deep gratitude for the professionalism and humane treatment of the medical and health personnel” who have cared for his wife throughout her treatment.

The Junts candidate for the Catalan elections, Carles Puigdemont, has mourned the death of Carola Mir. “Shocked and saddened by the death of Carola Miro; more than ever, at the side of President Quim Torra and his family in these sad hours. May she rest in peace,” his predecessor wrote in a note in ‘X’ collected by Europa Press.
