The attorney general Luz Adriana Camargo signed a resolution suspending the arrest warrants against nine leaders of the “Second Marquetalia.” It does not register the alias name “Iván Márquez”, its commander.

These are the guerrillas José Aldinever Sierra Sabogal, José Vicente Lesmes, William Danilo Malaver López, Alberto Cruz Lobo, Geovanny Andrés Rojas, Luis André Figueroa Marín, Allende Perilla Sandoval, José Darley Malagón Jiménez and Henry Quiñones Angulo.

“The President of the Republic has decided, in a supported and argued manner, to advance a negotiation of a political nature, a decision that this office must respect, within the framework of the constitutional principles of the division of powers,” the document says.

The resolution scope provisionally suspends arrest warrants for national and international authorities such as Interpol.

The Government delegation will be led by Armando Novoa, former magistrate of the National Electoral Council.

What is the process going with the ‘Second Marquetalia’?

In February of this year, The National Government and the ‘Second Marquetalia’—dissidence of the extinct FARC and led by Iván Márquez—announced the beginning of a peace process “that guarantees the life and safety of those who commit themselves to it.”

The document was signed by the High Commissioner for Peace, Otty Patiño, and the commander of that residual guerrilla group, Iván Márquez, who assured that they will develop prior agreements for the de-escalation of the conflict.

However, a few weeks ago, Commissioner Patiño pointed out that “If dissidents are reorganizing for war, they will be fought”which raises questions about the fate of short-term negotiations with these criminal groups.
