Algeciras bets on rural gasification and its aqueduct

Due to population growth in the municipality of Algeciras, the current aqueduct would be insufficient to cover the needs of the community. There are already 6,000 lots where people have settled and there are sectors where the precious liquid cannot reach.

The water is currently being extracted from the La Perdiz stream, and there is a geological fault there and every time it rains, there is rationing of the liquid, because they have no way to treat it.

Project aimed at agricultural workers

In relation to the plan that aims to bring home gas to the rural area, the mayor of the municipality of Algeciras, Alexander Martínez, said: “we are working on a project to bring this service to the rural area, there are about 14 villages that we aspire to be. beneficiaries and nearly 800 families who have this difficulty. And they do not have firewood for cooking, as is normally done, without ignoring the fact that we avoid health problems.”

In addition, the president indicated that the community’s economy will benefit, because a gas cylinder costs $80,000 and with this good, they would pay close to $30,000 on average.

The villages that would benefit are: Naranjo, Bajo and Alto Lebanon, Brisas, La Laguna, San José Alto, El Kiosco, Pinares, Palmas among others.

They are already working on the idea

“We have already advanced with Alcanos, the Government of Huila, this projection, and we are waiting to be able to finalize it, and hopefully in the second half of the current year, the execution of this important idea will begin,” added the official. .

The cost of this plan is $7,000 million, and they have not brought this service to rural areas for more than 12 years.

“For the above reason, we find ourselves struggling to bring this idea to reality. The co-financing we have is $3,000 million, therefore we hope that the Departmental Administration will help us, so that the area as a Municipality does not remain high, since we do not have all the resources for this purpose,” highlighted the mayor.

The aqueduct is no longer enough

Another of the plans that the Mayor’s Office of the Agricultural Pantry of Huila structures, is the construction of a new aqueduct, as stated by the president. “Our Municipality has grown exponentially, mainly towards the peripheral area, there are more than 6,000 new lots and about 40% have been built. This phenomenon has the consequence that in some sectors, the vital liquid is not able to reach them.”

In addition, the mouth draws from the La Perdiz stream, where they extract water for the people of Algeciras, it has a geological fault, and every time it rains, there is water rationing, because they have no way to treat it.

“We have the option of removing the precious liquid from the Los Negros stream, where there is already a project that has already been filed with the National Government, and has a cost of $25,000 million, which would undoubtedly help improve the water service,” he said. Mayor.

And they hope that during the course of this year, they will be assigned the necessary resources to finance this water plan.

For the development of this project, the Municipal Administration purchases the land where the new aqueduct would be located and the Ministry of the Environment would be the one who would provide the money to achieve it.

Affected by the rains

Another problem that harms the people of Algeciras has been the effects caused by winter.

“Days ago there was a storm that left several families affected, and we already made the report to the Risk Management Office, and we are waiting for them to help us, and in this way collaborate with those affected,” the official highlighted.

Also, we have a record of rural roads that are damaged. The access road to this town presents landslides, and users pass by one side of the road. The same situation occurs on the road that leads to Santana Ramos and the La Perdiz road that leads to the Primavera path.

“What is expected is that the situation is going to become critical, I hope we don’t get to bigger things, because we are looking for a way to alert the community and we have the Firefighters and Mayor’s Office staff attentive to solve any situation. We hope to have help from the State and the Department, since the resources are insufficient to address the different situations,” said the mayor.

In addition, the Agricultural Pantry suffers from a shortage of teachers and to date they need seven and hope that they will be assigned promptly and the institutions affected are the ‘Los Negros’ school, Quebradón Sur, La Arcadia, and in the urban area the Juan XXIII School.

And there are more than 700 teachers, they want to work in the positions that would be in the municipalities of Huila. The teachers request that the commitments in the ‘Social Retention’ be respected, who are the teachers who did not pass the merit contest held to reach the respective positions.

For her part, Viviana Oquendo, a graduate in Spanish Language, stated: “Provisional teachers have been unemployed since January, three periods have already passed and we are aware that there are educational communities that have protested against the lack of educators. “This is what happens in La Plata, the same luck is experienced in Garzón.”

The access road, a priority

In relation to the projects it is working on, Diario del Huila spoke with Alexander Martínez, mayor of the municipality of Algeciras, who stated: “we are carrying out negotiations with the National Government, to carry out some works of great importance for our town, such as the access road, which is important for development and has a cost of more than $20 billion.”

This Municipality only has this access road and although a large part of the section belongs to Campoalegre, the biggest beneficiaries are the residents of Algeciras.

“For this reason we are making every effort to be able to carry it out in this Government, and to pave this road,” declared the mayor.

Hospital in a geological fault

Likewise, one of the emergencies that this town has is the construction of a new healthcare center, as revealed by the mayor. “We are in this process, I spoke with the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, who expressed his intention to allocate the resources, since the information we have about the project has already expired.”

This Hospital serves users from the municipalities of Puerto Rico and San Vicente del Caguán, Caquetá, which are located near the Huila Agricultural Pantry.

“The Hospital we have has already completed its cycle, the Departmental Health Secretariat itself says that we are in a risk zone, specifically in a geological fault and they cannot make investments,” the official added.

The cost of this project would be in the order of $30 billion and they have the possibility of financing it, which is why they are advancing the structuring of the plan, to present it to the Huila Health Secretariat and the Ministry of Health and Protection Social.
