The measures that have been adopted to reduce water consumption in Bogotá are still in force, such as rationing, which is now in its second cycle of operation. Despite the rainfall that has occurred in recent days, the levels in the main reservoirs have not increased considerably and that is why the Bogotá Mayor’s Office continues to call for the proper use of the precious liquid.

Despite the rains, in the areas where the reservoirs that make up the Chingaza System are located, which supplies 70% of the water used in Bogotá, no heavy rainfall has been recorded that contributes to regulating the indices of its capacity. .

Through a video broadcast through the social networks of the Bogotá Aqueduct and Sewer Company (EAAB), the critical state in which these reservoirs are found was announced. The images reveal the critical situation that both the capital and several surrounding municipalities are experiencing.

The current state of the reservoirs in Chingaza

“As you can see here, the reservoir that reaches to the bottom there, generally always when it is full, reaches here in these places, but today it is already dry, completely dry,” says Eduardo Mesías, an operator of the entity.

Likewise, Mauricio Ortiz, another of the EAAB operators, stated that: “The river is completely at a low level. The invitation is for citizens to take care of water because it is a resource that can be exhausted.”

According to the recent report delivered by the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá, this reservoir system is at 16.13% of its capacity and the goal for the month of April is to reach 20%.

“Our workers call on citizens to be responsible with the use of water. Let’s save on showers, dishwashers and everywhere we can. “Every drop counts!” is the message from the Bogotá Aqueduct for citizens to save and take care of the precious liquid.
