In order to know the needs of the fishermen of Santa Marta, the Undersecretary of Development of the District installed the first working group with representatives of this productive sector to structure the best routes and actions for the protection, management and sustainability of fishing resources and of aquaculture.

The National Aquaculture and Fisheries Authority of Colombia (Aunap) was also present at the meeting to learn first-hand about the needs of this community and how the National Government can link them to activities where they develop new skills and knowledge in this matter.

At the meeting there were about 40 fishermen’s associations, which expressed their needs and the abandonment that they have presented in previous administrations and ask for support in a labor reconversion since their tasks have declined and their productivity has been reduced, they added that they do not queen that This meeting will remain on paper and, on the contrary, actions will be taken on the problems they presented.

The fishermen’s union also requested training from the Sena in courses for motorization operators and courses related to navigation. This institution committed to making the request at the main headquarters of the city of Bogotá, so that these courses can be opened in the regional Magdalena.

The Agrarian Bank, an entity that also participated in the work group, instructed them on how they could request loans from the entity so that they could implement it for growth and work improvements.

The Undersecretary of Rural Development committed to these associations to carry out personalized visits to learn first-hand about the needs of each one and to show the institutional offering offered by the district and the sponsoring entities.

The next work tables will be held when progress has been made on the objectives set after this first meeting.
