The alternate dialogues, carried out by the national and departmental Government with the ELN front in Nariño, have shaken the peace process that is being carried out with the central command of that guerrilla.

Recently, and after an interview with the head of the structure in the southwest of the country, the Delegation of the national Government in the dialogues with the ELN rejected the attempt to advance two alternative processes.

Through a statement issued by the delegation, they made it clear that holding different dialogues with the National Liberation Army (ELN) It is unfeasible and puts the central process at risk.

However, the delegation made it clear that it is the Government’s obligation to respond to the will of all structures to lay down their weapons, and they explained the implications of carrying out two processes with the same guerrilla.

“Following the audiovisual interview with Gabriel Yepes, ‘HH’, who identifies himself as head of the ELN’s Southern Community Front, the head of the Government Delegation in the Dialogues with the ELN reiterates that without a doubt, subtracting rifles from the bloody confrontation that the country is experiencing is an obligation of the governmentas well as responding to the fatigue of the communities in the face of the violence they suffer daily, and to the commitment to peace in the territory,” the statement reads.

Making clear the importance of implementing all strategies so that more and more rifles are silenced, in the statement signed by Vera Grabe and Iván Cepeda, they highlighted the type of implications that this situation has with the ELN.

“It is clear that the national government cannot advance a negotiation process in two instances with the same organization: in this case, a national dialogue table like the one that exists today with the ELN, and another in a process with a guerrilla front. Such a circumstance is legally and politically unfeasible.“, they pointed out from the delegation.

In that sense, through the manuscript they asked the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro, to make a decision regarding the two alternative processes that are being carried out with the ELN.

The delegation asked the high president to decide which of the two sides to continue talking with. Another alternative that was suggested to the president is that the rebel front be considered an independent structure of the ELN and treated as such.

Only in this way, according to what was stated by the delegation, will we avoid putting at risk the dialogue table and the progress that has been achieved since the representatives of the ELN central command and the national government delegation sat down.

“Therefore, it requests the President, as Head of State, to make the decision he considers regarding continuing to develop the work of the national dialogue table with the ELN, or to advance a dialogue table with the Nariño structure, or determine that said structure has ceased to be part of the organization with which it is negotiating at the national level, to develop an autonomous process with it,” the statement reads.

The interview to which the delegation refers is the one conducted by the Empty chair to Gabriel Yepes Mejía, known as “HH” or “Samuel”, commander of the ELN Communeros del Sur Front.

Among other things, in the dialogue, alias HH assured that the problems with the central command have arisen due to the territorial desire for peace that the front he commands has.

“This is born from our position of territorial peace. “We are autonomous in proposing peace building in the territory,” he said in response to the differences that exist with the national leadership of the ELN and the accusations against him.
