The destroyer ARA La Argentina joined forces with the helicopter carrier Tonnerre and the frigate Guépratte of the French National Navy

The carrying out of combined activities between the Argentine Navy and the French National Navy had been advanced by the Commander of the Tonnerre and Head of the Jeanne d’Arc Mission, Captain Adrien Schaar, in order to continue deepening relations between both naval forces . This is one of the pillars of the mission, registering important combined activities with the Brazilian Navy before their arrival in the city of Buenos Aires.

The activity carried out in the Argentine Sea included the Exercises known as PASSEX, its execution being reported in the Jordan yesterday, May 3, by the Argentine Navy. This was aimed at “the objective of improving interoperability”, including the participation of the aforementioned French ships, together with the destroyer ARA “La Argentina” (DELA), the icebreaker ARA “Almirante Irízar” (RHAI) and a Beechcraft B-200 aircraft of the Aeronaval Squadron of Maritime Surveillance, which operated from the Punta Indio Naval Air Base”.

Specifically, the MEKO 360 destroyer has just completed various navigation tests in which its propulsion systems were evaluated, after completing scheduled maintenance and repair work. This activity took place during the last days of April. For its part, the icebreaker ARA Almirante Irízar is currently returning to the city of Buenos Aires, having successfully completed the activities included in support of the 2023/2024 Antarctic Summer Campaign.

Finally, from the Argentine Navy they highlighted that “…a total of 20 officers and non-commissioned officers belonging to the Sea Fleet and Marine Infantry are on board the ship “Tonnerre”, who will be trained in specific techniques of this type of ship, and will disembark in the city of Ushuaia”.
