A traffic accident caused tragic death of truck driver in Antofagasta, after overturning the machine with 27 tons of sulfuric acid inside.
The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. this Saturday, three kilometers north of Route 5. For reasons that are being investigated, the man lost control of the vehicle, which ended up in the middle of the road.
As a result of the impact, the cargo containment broke and The chemical compound spilled through the truck, reaching the driver’s cabin and causing various burns on his body..
“When arriving at the scene, the person was outside the vehicle, he got out on his own, and with sulfuric acid burns,” revealed the fourth commander of the Antofagasta fire department, Rodrigo Riveros.
Minutes later, the victim was taken by ambulance to the Antofagasta Regional Hospitalwhere he died due to the severity of his injuries.
The authorities temporarily blocked the road to work on confining the material and cleaning the area affected by the acid, which reached a stretch of 150 meters.
