Guantánamo, May 4.- The Executive Secretary of the World Peace Council, Iraklis Tsavdaridis, called today to eliminate the illegal naval base that the United States maintains in the easternmost province of Cuba.
The above emerged at the inauguration of the VIII International Seminar for Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Bases, which is held in the easternmost of Cuba’s provinces, every two years, indicated the local radio station Radio Guantánamo.
More than 90 delegates participate in the event, including about 70 foreigners from about 25 countries, participating in the event sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People (ICAP) and the World Council for Peace.
The governor of Guantánamo, Alis Azahares Torreblanca, the member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, Zenia Lores Méndez, the Hero of the Republic of Cuba and president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (Icap), Fernando González Llort, in addition from Tsavdaridis, headline the event
During the day, Murid Abukhater, a Palestinian medical student, denounced the crime that Israel perpetrates against its people and thanked the island for its solidarity, where events and marches have been held to demand an end to the bombings.
The conclusions of the Seminar are scheduled for tomorrow in the municipality of Caimanera, territory where the illegal Yankee naval base has been located for more than 120 years, against the will of the Cubans.
There the final declaration and the proclamation for world peace will be made public, the media outlet assured. (Text and photos: PL)
