The situation of insecurity in the Palmor district, jurisdiction of the municipality of Ciénaga, in the department of Magdalena, keeps the community of this region under anxiety, taking into account that Every day there are clashes between the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia and the Conquering Self-Defense Forces of the Sierra Nevada.

Given this situation, the Ombudsman’s Office carried out an inspection and I can verify the latent risk that exists in this district and in the upper area of ​​the Sierra NevadaThis is how the national defender, Carlos Camargo, expressed it.

“In the monitoring carried out by officials of the Ombudsman’s Office, through its Magdalena Regional Office, of the humanitarian situation in the upper part of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, in the vicinity of the Kogui Malayo Arhuaco reservation, it was evident that Families in three settlements of the Kogi people are in danger“, he stated.

“Since last May 1st The indigenous authorities have kept the population protected in their settlementswaiting for the fighting to come to an end and there are security guarantees in the area, so that they can travel without seeing their lives exposed,” he added.

Likewise, the official raised a called to the authorities to prevent the lives of these families, and the community in general, from continuing to be at high risk.

“Consequently, I make an urgent call to the territorial authorities and the National Army: Deploy actions that safeguard peasants and indigenous people in such a vast area and update prevention, protection and contingency plans.with the aim of providing comprehensive care to those who are being affected by the armed conflict,” he assured.

The entity added that this situation has been occurring since 2019.when the Ombudsman’s Office alerted him through an early warning, in addition, it made two follow-up reports, of which, they say, no immediate actions were taken.
