Ezequiel Lo Cane, Justina’s father, founder of the house that bears his name and a reference in organ donation and transplantation, met with the president of the General Council of Education (CGE) of Entre Ríos, Alicia Fregonese, and her team , to promote this joint project called #Educaciónx7.
The educational protocol for the promotion of organ donation and solidarity awareness in classrooms was developed in collaboration with experts in disruptive education and will be implemented in all educational institutions in the province, both public and private, adapting to different levels and educational cycles.
“The project aims to raise awareness about the relevance of organ donation and break down obstacles so that more people become donors. The Justina Law, approved in 2018, establishes that any individual over 18 years of age is considered a donor, unless they have expressed their opposition while alive. We consider it essential that the students of Entre Ríos are duly informed and equipped with tools related to this issue,” highlighted Alicia Fregonese.
“This meeting marks the beginning of our actions to implement the protocol this month, coinciding with the month of organ donation at the national level. Together with the CGE we will establish references in schools and provide training for its effective application,” explained Ezequiel Lo Cane. .
He reported that the civil association he heads, Casa Justina, works in this regard in collaboration with NGOs from all over the country and health and education professionals. He noted that the goal is for students to “become ambassadors for organ donation and promote awareness in their communities. It is essential that this topic be discussed in schools, since children can influence the agenda of adults. They can educate their families and be agents of change in society,” concluded Lo Cane.
Justina was 12 years old and suffered from congenital heart disease when she died in 2017 while waiting for a transplant. Before her departure, upon entering the waiting list of the National Central Single Ablation and Implant Coordinating Institute (Incucai), she urged her family to start a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation . Thanks to this joint effort between her family and the Incucai, the Justina Law was promoted.
