The data was provided by the provincial Health Secretariat, specifying that the vaccine against Respiratory Syncytial Virus is indicated for all pregnant people during the eighth month of pregnancy and will be applied until July 31 of this year, in all vaccination centers in the province.

A total of 736 pregnant people in the province who were between weeks 32 and 36 of gestation, that is, in the eighth month of pregnancy, have already received the vaccine against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), which protects babies, from birth to 6 months of age, from infections such as Bronchiolitis and Pneumonia.

This was reported this Monday by the Government of Chubut, led by Ignacio “Nacho” Torres, through the Ministry of Health, specifying that this vaccination campaign began on March 1 and will last until July 31.

In addition, immunization is free, does not require medical indication and can be carried out at vaccination centers in different locations in the province.

Reduction in hospitalizations and infections

In this regard, the provincial director of Prevalent Pathologies and Epidemiology, Mariela Brito, had explained that “the respiratory syncytial virus is the main cause of bronchiolitis in infants, especially in young children, and has a great impact on the health system. in the winter season, when there is saturation of pediatric and neonatology beds due to infections by this virus.”

In this sense, “the vaccine against this virus has demonstrated high effectiveness in reducing serious hospitalizations for this reason and also in reducing infections in outpatient children,” Brito highlighted.
