In the middle of a unemployment that enters its seventh weekassumed this Monday afternoon as vice chancellor of the Manizales branch of the National University, Diana Cárdenas Aguirre.

She comes to the position replacing Professor Neil Guerrero.

Things at the U. Nacional are complicated, including its headquarters in Manizales. The academic calendar generates concern, since we are entering the seventh week of the cessation of classes and there is a risk, for example, of extend the first semester schedule from 2024 until the second of this year.

A teacher explains it: “We are going to practically complete the 50% inactivity. This week is crucialsince if the strike continues it will be very difficult to conclude this semester at the beginning of June, as planned in the calendar.”

Juan Sebastián Aristizábal Henao, student representative, mentions that until now there is uncertainty about what will happen to the University’s academic calendar. “We are still on strike at the Manizales headquarters, Therefore, a semester schedule agreement cannot be generated,” he points out.

The strike at the National University began on March 21. A week later it was also official at the Manizales headquarters. The protest is due to disagreement with the Higher University Council (CSU), which appointed José Ismael Peña as rector for the period 2024-2027.
