SAN JOSÉ, CA.- That Wednesday morning, respiratory problems were reported at Sunrise High School in San Jose.
Several students experienced difficulty breathing, so the San Jose Fire Department was called.
Two of the affected students were taken to the hospital for further evaluation, while six students would be picked up by their parents or guardians.
The fire department issued an alert at 9:40 a.m., which has had a significant impact on traffic on E. Julian Street.
At the time, authorities asked people to avoid the area and drivers and pedestrians to look for alternative routes.
The San Jose Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials (HazMat) team has been actively investigating the conditions in the classroom where the problems were reported.
They discovered elevated levels of CO2 but no other pollutants in the air.
The source of CO2 has been eliminated and the levels have returned to normal.
Finally, the classroom was cleaned and cleared and traffic has been reopened.
Authorities promised to provide more information as it becomes available.
