Today the “Colombia Tech Report 2023-2024” was launched, which was built by Kpmg in association with Eafit, Cesa, EIA, the Chambers of Commerce of Bogotá, Barranquilla and Cali, in addition to Andi, Andi of the future and INNpulsa. The general result of the report was that in Colombia there are 1,720 startups, 30% more compared to 2022.

By region, Bogotá and Antioquia accumulate 80% of companies. Likewise, more than half of these ventures are divided into six predominant sectors: fintech (17%), saas (10%) and healthtech (6%); Startups in business management also stand out (6%); proptech (6%) and edtech (6%).

Regarding the publication of the report, María Paula Peñaranda, innovation manager and leader of Emerging Giants at Kpmg Colombia, said that Colombia is a suitable region for the birth of new entrepreneurs.

“This year, we have a very relevant factor of change, which consists of greater participation from other regions of the country that are betting on these projects, transforming the norm that only the main cities covered the majority of this spectrum. This, without a doubt, represents an opportunity to make startups a key driver of the national economy,” said Peñaranda.

Other regions of Colombia such as Valle del Cauca and Atlántico were protagonists in the report, also registering a 10% increase in new companies; Santander follows (3%), Caldas (2%) and Risaralda (1%). Barranquilla and Cali are still within the Global Top 1,000 of cities that are powerhouses for the development of new startups.

“Taking into account the social conditions that the country presents, which can influence the decision of Colombians to undertake, as well as that of investors for believing in a project, it is necessary to promote strategic alliances and more programs that support new ones. entrepreneurs and gives them the possibility of accessing financing and networking options,” said Peñaranda.
