A family of eight adults suffered suspected food poisoning this Tuesday after eating a meal during midday in the Entre Ríos town of Villa Elisa. Hours later, a man died in the hospital.

Given what happened, prosecutor Alejandro Perroud opened an investigation to determine if the poisoning was caused by spoiled food or some toxic substance.

For his part, Danilo Parodi, head of the Villa Elisa Department, explained that “the family – all its members work in waste collection – apparently consumed a stew prepared in a saucepan where other meals had previously been cooked and apparently, they added a substance they believed to be salt.”

It was then that after lunch and according to local media, the family members began to feel bad and sought medical assistance.

Four of them were admitted to the San Roque hospital in Villa Elisa, while the other four were transferred to the San Benjamín hospital in Colón, where a 53-year-old man died due to cardiorespiratory arrest related to poisoning.

The commissioner indicated that they are awaiting the results of the examinations and the autopsy of the deceased and that in addition, remains of the food were confiscated and are being analyzed to determine the ingredients used in its preparation.
