This is the Antonio Nariño school in the El Morro district, where the Maker system or makerspaces was implemented, an educational technique where students can explore a variety of tools and materials, to build and create their own school projects.

Nearly 600 students from the rural Antonio Nariño Educational Institution now have a Maker Classroom at their main headquarters, a space dedicated to promoting creativity, experimentation and innovation through the integration of STEAM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Maker Classroom, which was equipped with cutting-edge technology and specialized resources, represents a significant step towards creating solutions to the environmental, social and economic challenges of the territory, within the framework of the ‘Robotics for Sustainability’ program implemented by the Sustainable Institute from previous years.

The results have been so significant that the students are not only building and programming robotic prototypes such as solar panels and wind turbines, early warning systems for risk management and hydrogen potential meters, for the modernization of agriculture, but they are also The institution now has a technical specialty in Robotics for Sustainability.

The rector, Fernando Paredes, told Boyacá Seven Days: “this space not only represents an investment in quality education, but also a commitment to building a more sustainable and equitable future.”

The Maker Classroom will not only serve as a hands-on learning laboratory, but also as an innovation center where students will be able to participate in extracurricular activities, clubs and projects related to Steam sciences. In addition, training and professional development programs will be offered for teachers at the school’s 12 district locations, in order to strengthen their ability to integrate technology and innovation into the school curriculum.
