This Thursday, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, visits the Tarapacá region to participate in the Regional Security Cabinet and the inauguration of the Integrated Ballistic Identification System (IBIS) of the Investigative Police (PDI).

In the morning, the Government authority participates in the constitution of the Regional Security Cabinet, headed by the presidential delegate of Tarapacá, Daniel Quinteros.

The activity takes place at the PDI Iquique headquarters and will be attended by the provincial delegate, Camila Castillo; the head of the Tarapacá Border Zone Force, General Ramón Oyarzún; the prefect of the PDI, Cristián Benavides; the Tarapacá Zone chief, Juan González, among other authorities.

Subsequently, Monsalve will lead the inauguration of the IBIS system in the PDI Criminalistics Laboratory. The integrated system will allow maintaining a fingerprint record of each weapon, and the precise identification of weapons involved in the commission of crimes.

“These ballistic identification systems are a fundamental tool for the criminal and forensic investigation of crimes committed with firearms and for the traceability of ammunition found at crime sites, since they allow this evidence to be associated with the weapons that fired them and their owners,” indicates a document from the Ministry of the Interior on the Less Weapons More Security Plan.

After these two activities, the undersecretary will hold a press conference, around 10:00 a.m., together with the regional authorities, representatives of the police and the Tarapacá Prosecutor’s Office, and the mayors of Iquique and Alto Hospicio.

Then, Monsalve will travel to the auditorium of the University of Tarapacá (UTA) to participate in the Public Account of the Presidential Delegation of Tarapacá, headed by delegate Daniel Quinteros.
