This popular public-private alliance seeks to strengthen food security processes in four municipalities of the department, including Pasto.

Catambuco, Pasto (Nariño), May 22, 2024 (@MinAgricultura). – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development allocated resources of $2,000 million to strengthen the processes of the ‘She feeds the world’ program, which is developed in conjunction with the PepsiCo Foundation and Care Colombia. This strategy aims to improve food security, nutrition of rural households and reduce gender inequality in the agricultural communities of Nariño.

These resources will be allocated to the second phase of the program that promotes the adaptation of plots in areas with an agricultural vocation, for the production of food that contributes to food security with a gender focus so that women are the engine of development of the countryside in the region.

For the capacity director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, John Jairo Hueje, “this popular public-private alliance is transcendental because we are hand in hand with rural producers along with international companies. It is a valuable program for food security and sovereignty states based on the leading role that women have in the countryside.”

In her speech to the beneficiaries of the program, Hueje stressed the importance of women in the processes of peasant, family and community agriculture, and in all cycles of food production with a much more sustainable agroecological vision, from cultivation to production. commercialization.

This stage will reach producer associations in Pasto, Ipiales, Pupiales and Gualmatán, where it is expected to benefit at least 7,320 potato and vegetable growers. Likewise, the associations that make up this process will receive comprehensive technical assistance to consolidate knowledge in good agricultural practices that contributes to expanding their knowledge in crop management.

For her part, María Paula Cano, director of the PepsiCo Colombia Foundation, pointed out that “throughout these months, we have witnessed the value and potential of rural women and their fundamental role in food security. From the PepsiCo Foundation we are proud to contribute with a program that promotes female empowerment and sows progress in the department of Nariño.”
