Luis Aranzubía Benito (Nájera, 1958) is passionate about Anglo-Saxon music. This English professor, now retired, for years combined his teaching work with being the main voice of various groups on the regional scene. Now, with all the time in the world, he enjoys the band he leads, made up of members of his family, and which bears his name. Tomorrow, at 8 p.m., he and the rest of the members will offer a concert at the Doga Cinema in Nájera to benefit Proyecto Hombre.

– What history does the ‘Luis Aranzubía Band’ have?

– It is a family band made up of eight people. My daughters are at the piano, the one who plays the bass is my nephew, a cousin does the choirs… Everything stays at home. The group has a decade of history, and arose from our common music-loving passion. Regarding me, I have been singing since I was 18 in different community groups, a lifetime. Without taking classes, always self-taught.

– What do you like to sing?

– Since I have been a professor of English, they are always ballads in that language, which is more practical and musical. I have my own compositions, and I am also fascinated by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, America, Billy Joel… All of these classics will be played at the charity concert on Friday.

– Tell us about the event.

– This is the second time we have committed to something like this. In the past, we already did another to benefit Emmaús Navarra. On this occasion, the proceeds will go to Proyecto Hombre La Rioja, an association that, as you already know, helps people with addictions and saves many of our young people from social exclusion. Having been an educator for so many years, I know cases, and nothing is more annoying than lives wasted by drugs and alcohol.

– Where can I get the tickets?

– At a price of ten euros, they can be purchased in advance at the Royalty, Pepe, Meraki and Four Roses bars in Nájera. We also reserved a spot of the more than 400 available to sell at the box office one hour before the concert, which is at 8:00 p.m.

– What will attendees find when they arrive?

– We will do a very digestible show, lasting an hour and a half, in which we will offer fourteen songs. The one I most want to sing is ‘Time’ by Pink Floyd, my favorite. I encourage everyone to come and contribute with their entry to a good cause.

– How are your nerves?

– Well, I hope the weekly rehearsals have been helpful. Because lately we have gotten together more to have dinners than to sing in front of the public (laughs). Jokes aside, we do not lose sight of the fact that we are not a professional band, but there is a great bond between the eight of us and that gives us a huge plus.

– Good luck on Friday.

– Thank you. We are going to enjoy and help Proyecto Hombre a lot.
