Claudia Elena González Acevedo, head of the School Services Division of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP), reported that a few days before the end of the school year, 1,168 withdrawals of students from the highest university in Potosí have been reported.

The head of the School Services Division of the UASLP explained that the total number of students who are enrolled in each school year is, approximately 30 thousand students, counting all campuses, undergraduate and graduate degrees, meaning that they have had a school dropout percentage of 3.89 percent.

González Acevedo indicated that in the school year 2020-2021 there were 1,354 casualties; In 2021-2022 there were 1,962, in 2022-2023 there were 688 and in 2023-2024 there were 1,688.

He explained that the semesters where most drop outs are in the first ones, being the faculties of Engineering, Habitat and Chemistry. with more cases of school dropouts; He also revealed that the main reasons are those related to work or economic reasons:

“All faculties carry out studies on the reasons, many of these are related to work, so they make temporary absences, others are for the economic part and others because young people tell us that it was not what they wanted to study. Previously we studied and “We had 20 or 30 options, now there are 108 options, it’s a lot, you don’t really know what you are going to study or what you want to study.”

Finally, the head of the School Services Division of the UASLP assured that to avoid dropping out at the higher level due to the indecision of young people, it is important that high schools give greater support and dissemination to vocational guidance.
