The Governor of Atlántico, Eduardo Verano, reiterated his concern about high energy rates in the region. According to Verano, energy rates in the Atlantic are among the highest in the country, which has generated a negative impact on the region’s economy.
“What we have at this moment are rates that are beyond competition, even at the national level, and we have the highest rates in the entire country, in our homes, in our businesses, in our industries.”stated the Governor.
He recognized that the increase in energy rates is due to various factors, among which are the rate option, which corresponds to the energy that was stopped being charged during the pandemic, and the power granted to service providers to charge. losses directly to users.
“We are in the worst world, no one is fighting to reduce losses, because the company that bills simply charges it to the users, so the users, those losses collected and that tariff option added together, gave a shot in billing almost in 50%, which was totally unfair,” the Governor specified.
Verano highlighted that the rates are determined by circumstances beyond the control of local governments and that the National Government is responsible for contracting and creating the companies that provide electric energy service.

The Governor has insisted on the need for rates to be affordable not only for the low-income population, but also for commerce and entrepreneurs.
