• National Director Alejandra Arriaza and Governor José Miguel Carvajal held a work meeting.
During the development of her work agenda in Iquique last week, the National Director of Customs, Alejandra Arriaza Loeb, held a long-awaited meeting with the Regional Governor of Tarapacá, José Miguel Carvajal, with the aim of advancing in obtaining financing for the construction of a new complex at the El Loa Customs Outpost, for an estimated amount of 28 billion pesos.
The Customs authority, accompanied by Regional Director Cristian Molina, detailed the work being carried out at the outpost and the infrastructure needs required for better inspection and user service. He also explained that the Service already has a 171-hectare land available and an approved project with technical recommendation.
The objective, Arriaza highlighted, is to ensure that El Loa also reaches the safety and user service standards that the Quillagua Customs Advanced will have, a construction that will begin to be executed in the coming weeks and that has financing of more than 26 thousand million pesos from the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) within the framework of the Infrastructure Fund for Development (FIDE) program.
“It was a very positive meeting to continue advancing the objective of having a first-class complex in El Loa, just as will happen in Quillagua. Both control points are strategic not only for the Tarapacá Region, but also for the rest of the country because they constitute the last border between the great north and the rest of Chile,” highlighted the Director of Customs.
In this sense, he added that “that is why it is important for Customs to obtain the necessary funds from the Regional Government. In different instances we have received support from various authorities and we trust that we are doing things appropriately. In fact, we already have the land available and also the technical recommendation for this new construction.”
The Seremis of the MOP and National Assets, Juan Papic Vilca and Osvaldo Ardiles, respectively, also participated during the meeting; the Director of Architecture of the Mop, Edinson Jara; and the Chief of the Carabineros Zone, General Juan Francisco González, who discussed investments in security.
