With 16 business days of activity, one less than in April and four compared to the same month in 2023, automotive terminals produced 38,440 units in May, 10.6 percent below the April volume, according to the Association of Automotive Factories. (Adefa) In addition, production contracted 27.9 percent when compared to the 53,282 units reached in May of last year, in line with the general collapse that the national industry is going through.

In the accumulated of the first five months of 2024, the terminals produced a total of 184,707 passenger and utility vehicles, 23.8 percent below the 242,255 units produced in the same period of 2023.

Regarding the performance in foreign trade, the sector exported 22,974 vehicles during the fifth month of the year, which showed a growth of 11.5 percent in its comparison with April, although compared to the same month last year the drop was 24.1 percent.

In the accumulated period from January to May, they exported 105,955 units, 17.7 percent less than the shipments registered in the same period last year.

“During the last few weeks, we have experienced a series of sporadic stoppages at several production plants, due to flooding in southern Brazil. The lack of supply of parts is reflected in the production volumes of the period and their comparison with the previous month,” explained Martín Zuppi, president of ADEFA, regarding the behavior of the activity.

However, the manager highlighted that “for the first time this year there is an increase in export volumes and wholesale sales compared to the previous month.”

In this sense, although it will require monitoring in the coming months, he observed that there could be a change in trend, after having found a floor in these variables in April.

“This change in trend during the month is encouraging and reinforces our commitment to continue working together with the Value Chain and the Government on the sector’s agenda.”

Regarding wholesale sales, the automotive sector sold 27,851 units to the dealer network in May, 24.1 percent higher than deliveries in April and 27.9 percent below the volume for the same month of the year. past. Between January and May, a total of 129,653 vehicles were sold to the network, 20.3 percent below the 162,723 units in the first five months of 2023.
