San Jacinto del Cauca (Bolívar) faces 22 critical flood points: Mayor

The municipality of San Jacinto del Cauca, in the department of Bolívar, not only faces the emergency caused by the Caregato jet, but also has 22 other critical points prone to flooding. These points extend from the municipality of Nechí, in Antioquia, to the municipality of Achí, in Bolívar.

According to Mayor Oney Hernández, these critical points have not received the necessary attention in recent years due to the emergency generated by the Caregato jet.

There are 22 critical points that, if Caregato is closed, it is possible that the Cauca River could enter through any of these critical points, since in recent years, as a result of the Caregato jet, these critical points have practically not been worked on and have no the ability to withstand the levels of the Cauca River”, the mayor explained.

The lack of intervention in these critical points has increased the risk of new flooding in the region, even if the Caregato jet is successfully blocked, said the local president, who also explained that the capacity of these points to resist the levels of the Cauca River has been compromised, which generates concern among the authorities and the local population.

Mayor Hernández has called on the competent authorities to take measures to strengthen and protect these critical points, in order to prevent future floods and guarantee the safety of the population.
