Infrastructure and training are the axes that the leader proposes to provide the institution in a good way. He knows his ideas.

The Aysén Firefighters recently elected the former commander of the Coyhaique Fire Department, Boris Romero, as regional president, who will assume a new role for the institution.

Aysén Regional Newspaper He spoke with Romero and he commented about his new functions and the challenges that the different companies will face, each with its uniqueness and complexities to face its work.

Romero indicated that, although there is a fire superintendent who is the interlocutor with the community and the authorities, the regional president is the representative of each of the fire departments and companies.

“There is a president per region who makes up the national board and who manages the regional and national authorities,” he stated.

Boris Romero said that the position is for two years and that the biggest challenges will be focused on achieving better infrastructure. “It is common knowledge that 58 new cars were purchased for the region, but what we are dealing with today is in the barracks and protecting the machines indoors in optimal conditions so that they do not suffer damage due to the climatic conditions here” , he indicated.

The regional president of Firefighters said that another issue that must be emphasized is training, since as vehicles and equipment with modern technology are going to arrive, volunteers must be trained in the use of new tools.

Diversities

Boris Romero stated that although infrastructure and training are two regional axes, there are also several pending issues that show the diversity that Aysén firefighters have.

“An example is Melinka, which has a reality diametrically opposite to that of Villa O’Higgins, or the reality of Tortel, which does not need a car but a boat because each town has its special characteristics,” he said.

The firefighter leader said that it is necessary to build a fire station in Repollal, in Las Guaitecas, to receive a modern car, and also build more barracks in Puerto Cisnes, Puerto Bertrand and an extra company in Chile Chico and given that he believes that the most It would be prudent to have standard barracks throughout Aysén.

“It is easier to approve 20 types of barracks than to make them all different. We think that this is the option that could give us the best results,” the leader indicated that he already has a good idea of where to aim to best serve one of the most beloved institutions in Aysen’s Patagonia.
