The National Registry of Civil Status installed 31 voting tables, distributed in 11 positions.

With complete normality, at 8:00 am, the national registrar of Civil Status, Hernán Penagos, opened the polls for the first elections for mayor and Municipal Council in Nuevo Belén de Bajirá, Chocó.

This municipality was created by Ordinance no. 180 of June 27, 2023 of the Departmental Assembly of Chocó and the citizens supported the creation of the municipality through the referendum held on November 26, 2023.

“We are pleased to be in Nuevo Belén de Bajirá to open this unprecedented democratic day in the youngest municipality in the country, which became number 31 in Chocó and 1,104 in the country. We invite the inhabitants of the municipality to come out en masse to exercise their right to vote,” said the national registrar of Civil Status, Hernán Penagos.

In total, 8,972 citizens are eligible to vote in these elections, of which 4,004 are women and 4,968 are men. The National Registry installed 31 voting tables, distributed in 11 positions, one in the municipal seat and 10 in townships.

Likewise, for these elections, 231 voting jurors (186 regulars and 45 remaining) were appointed, who were duly trained to perform this function.
