What happened?

This Sunday, June 9, the primary elections for regional governors and mayors were held, to determine who will be on the October ballot along with the rest of the candidates.

In the case of regional governors, there were only elections in two regions, specifically for Coquimbo and Aysén, who already know the winners after the results delivered by the Electoral Service (Servel).

Who won in the Coquimbo region?

The candidate who won was the independent Cristóbal Juliá de la Vegawho prevailed over Cristián Rondanelli, representative of the UDI, and Roberto Vega Campusano, who aspired to the position through National Renewal.

Who won in the Aysén region?

In the Aysén region, in the primaries of Chile Vamos won Marcelo Santana, member of the Independent Democratic Union. Behind them were Fernando Guzmán of Renovación Nacional and Jorge Sepúlveda, who competed as an independent.

When are the next elections?

The winning candidates in the primaries will be on the ballot on Sunday, October 27, when the 2024 General elections are held. The positions of Regional Governors, Regional Councilors, Mayors and Councilors will be elected.

According to Servel, “according to Law 21,524, this is an election with mandatory voting. The Electoral Registry closes on June 8, the day on which the deadline to request a change of electoral address ends.”
