Public Education students celebrate World Environment Day with an educational fair

On Wednesday, June 5, World Environment Day was celebrated and the educational establishments belonging to the Puerto Cordillera Local Public Education Service of the communes of Coquimbo and Andacollo, became part of this celebration by holding an educational fair with about 40 stands that They seek to promote and encourage students’ motivation for science, technology and the environment, creating an ideal space for them to publicize the different projects they have carried out and raise awareness in society about the importance of environmental care.

The protagonists of the day were the students, who presented their initiatives to the community. Dayana Cortés, a 5th grade student at El Peñón School, indicated that “I like to come to these activities because it is important to see that the planet Earth is clean. I don’t like to pollute and I hope that when I grow up the planet will not be polluted. I like to recycle because when we recycle we can make fun and useful things.”

One of the objectives of the day is to strengthen students’ 21st century skills and learning experiences in Science, Technology and the Environment, developing their critical and purposeful attitude with respect to their environment, mainly related to the celebration of the Day. World Environment. Teachers and education assistants were also present and were a fundamental part of this activity. Mariana González, in charge of coexistence at the Patricio Lynch School in Andacollo, valued the carrying out of the activity, highlighting that “it is essential to create territory between Coquimbo and Andacollo and also the importance of doing this type of activities that highlight the care and protection of the environment environment with activities that were carried out by the students themselves and raise awareness for future generations about caring for our planet.”

The mayor of the commune of Andacollo, Gerald Cerda, who was present at the activity, noted that “we are very happy for the intentionality of the Puerto Cordillera Local Service, in conjunction with the Seremi de Medio Ambiente, with the Mining Company Teck Carmen de Andacollo , with the Municipality and with each of the educational institutions of Andacollo where we raise awareness for World Environment Day. In this aspect, students offer different initiatives to protect the environment and others to use different energies in favor of care as such. It is an intention that is necessary to make it possible to raise awareness and inform children from their first school stage to generate information, knowledge, and obviously that these generations, later on, will be the ones who will present different initiatives and projects, therefore, education “Environmental protection must begin from the earliest ages.”

For his part, the Seremi of the Environment of the Coquimbo Region, Leonardo Gros, pointed out that “we are happy with a wonderful activity, full of children from both Coquimbo and Andacollo, an environmental education activity to promote commitment to the environment. . With many people, all very happy, all eager to learn with many questions about the environmental issue and we are happy to commemorate, in this context, the International Environment Day, in a commune where environmental issues are of first level importance for the neighbors and with a massive participation of young people.”
