A 16-year-old boy was seriously injured on Saturday after falling from a height of 12 meters down the elevator shaft of a home in the Madrid neighborhood of Aluche, a Madrid Emergency spokesperson informed Europa Press.

Until the accident, the City Hall firefighters went to the place, located on Rafael Finat Street, and rescued the young man, who was then treated by the Samur-Civil Protection paramedics for multiple trauma.

He was transferred in potentially serious condition to the San Carlos Clinical Hospital, where he entered the ICU with trauma to the spine but without spinal cord injury, and with a fractured pelvis and tailbone. This Tuesday he was recovering from his injuries in the hospital.

Agents from the Municipal and National Police also attended the scene, analyzing what happened. According to what the victim’s father, who was accompanying him at the time, told ‘Telemadrid’, the young man tripped down an unfinished staircase and gave way to the protection that covered the external, glass-enclosed elevator shaft. A protective fence that he claims was incorrectly placed.

This family had warned the installation company for months that the situation of the stairs was very dangerous, so they have filed a complaint with the company in charge of the works for negligence.
