Two of the Russian ships that are scheduled to arrive in Havana tomorrow, June 12, are this Tuesday in the Atlantic Ocean carrying out “exercises on the use of high-precision missiles.” This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense on its Telegram channel, in a message accompanied by a video. The “heterogeneous tactical naval attack group of the Northern Fleet”, as the organization calls it, is made up of the frigate Gorshkov and the nuclear powered submarine Kazan.

The operations they carry out are “through computer simulation against objectives that represent naval groups of the conventional enemy and that are at a distance of more than 600 kilometers.”

Similarly, the Russian Ministry of Defense indicates that days ago the frigate Gorshkov carried out “training” to repel an air attack, testing the “interaction” between the command and combat posts during firing with “the AK-192M naval artillery installations and the Broadsword anti-aircraft artillery system against simulated air targets.”

During that trip around the world she was in Havana, one of her last ports of call before returning to her country.

This same Tuesday, the Russian Ministry of Defense had announced the “second stage” of the exercises of its tactical nuclear forces. The first exercises began on May 26, ordered by Putin and in response to “threats from the West.”

He Kazan and the Gorshkovnext to the oil tanker Pashin and the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker, they plan to enter the port of the Cuban capital this Wednesday, without it being clarified so far why. The Cuban Ministry of the Armed Forces assured last week that Havana and the Kremlin “strictly adhere to international regulations” and that “none of the ships carry nuclear weapons.”

The United States, for its part, ruled out that the arrival of the three ships and the nuclear submarine poses a direct threat to its security, considering that they are part of Russia’s regular military maneuvers.
