There is a high risk of flooding in municipalities such as Montería, Tierralta, Cereté, San Pelayo, Cotorra, Lorica and San Bernardo del Viento, due to the rising Sinú River that threatens to overflow at several critical points.

While Ayapel, Montelíbano, Buenavista, Pueblo Nuevo, La Apartada and Puerto Libertador are the municipalities affected by the flooding of the San Jorge River.

The Environmental Corporation of the Sinú and San Jorge Valleys (CVS) urges the riverside municipalities toactivate your municipal disaster risk management councils to avoid emergencies

The alert that the CVS has issued is due to the high rainfall that is occurring in the department by 54%above the historical levels that we have for the month of June and secondly the high levels of the flows of the Sinú and San Jorge rivers,” explained Orlando Medina, director of that environmental entity.

Meanwhile, the Mayor’s Office of Montería reported that a team from the Office of Comprehensive River Management and Risk and Disaster Attention traveled to the district of Las Palomas, in order to verify the effects and the increase in the level of the Sinú River due to to the increase in rainfall in the region.

During the inspection, carried out jointly with the community,35 families affected by the rise in river level were registeredwho are self-hosting in the homes of family and friends until conditions improve and the water level decreases.

Due to the current situation,The community requested special attention in disease controls transmitted by vectors, because cases of dengue have been recorded in the area.

The Office of Comprehensive River Management and Risk and Disaster Assistancewill continue to monitor the situation and work together with local authorities and the communityto ensure prompt and adequate attention to affected families in other villages and townships.
