At the recent Disaster Risk Management Council, convened by the mayor of Lorica, Córdoba, Carlos Mario Manzurunanimously a favorable opinion was given to decree public calamity due to the intensity of the rains in that area of ​​Bajo Sinú.

It was established to call for support and accompaniment to the National Government through the National Risk and Disaster Management Unit – UNGRD; equal to the departmental government in Córdoba, the CAR-CVS and the Urrá Hydroelectric Plant.

“We responded to the declaration of calamity due to the red alert issued by the CVS and we are seeing the high levels of the Sinú River. We have been working with the communities, but we need a greater scope due to this problem that is approaching us. We are going to structure projects and we have to execute them as soon as possible,” said the mayor of Lorica.

“It is crucial to remain alert to this eventuality. “We will continue to join forces between the administration and the community to face this situation,” added the president.

Likewise, it was indicated that there will be permanent monitoring and preventive reinforcement work will continue at critical points of the Sinú River.

It should be remembered that Lorica is one of the municipalities with the most critical points due to erosion and flooding. According to the CAR – CVS, those of most concern are Sarandelo, Nariño, Cotocá Arriba and Cotocá Abajo.

Lorica is the fifth municipality to declare a public calamity due to heavy rains. The first to turn to this figure were Ayapel, Montelíbano, Puerto Libertador and The Apartad.
