During a meeting attended by members of the Solidarity Movement with Cuba, members of the Association of Cuban Residents in Colombia and diplomatic personnel from the island accredited in this capital, the legislator commented that it is necessary to take actions to break the blockade imposed by the United States. , whose effect he described as infamous. The also president of the Friendship Group between the Congress of Colombia and the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba (Unicameral Parliament) also referred to the need to raise awareness among the citizens of the South American nation about the rigors derived from Washington’s unilateral siege.

We cannot remain calm, he expressed, while urging to increase solidarity actions towards a people who, as he stressed, resist every day.

Regarding this endeavor, he insisted on the need to join greater efforts and the urgency of providing more effective responses, creating more awareness and offering support to the largest of the Antilles.

He recalled how by maintaining the commitment assumed as a guarantor country of the peace process between the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army, the previous Colombian cabinet, together with retarded groups from the United States, caused the return of Cuba to the unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

As part of his speech, he also reported that a meeting is being organized for parliamentary delegations from both nations to discuss issues of common interest next September.

He also praised the historical example given by the Caribbean country to the rest of the world.

“There is Cuba with the strength and drive of its people to say that we move forward and the fight continues,” he exclaimed.

For his part, the island’s ambassador to Colombia, Javier Caamaño, told those present how in the face of a policy of asphyxiation practiced by the United States to create chaos, need and calamities, the Antillean nation resists, preserves its social achievements and ensures the equal opportunities for its citizens.

He recalled how the triumph of the 1959 insurrectional process prevented gangsters and criminals from turning Cuba into a brothel as they tried to do in the middle of the last century.

He stressed that currently the island and its leadership are focused, following the definition expressed by Fidel Castro of Revolution, on changing everything that must be changed and eliminating the obstacles that impede the development of the nation.

The meeting, held on this day and carried out under the name of Economic War against Cuba, brought together Cuban academics who explained to the audience the effects of the blockade that the United States has maintained against the island for more than 60 years.
