The Government of the State of San Luis Potosí reports that after the agreement with the National Water Commission (Conagua) and the Government of Tamaulipas, a program was agreed to extract water for 30 days from the Tampaón River to be sent to the lagoon system that supplies the cities of Tampico and Altamira, after ensuring that there will be no effects on the population centers or agricultural activities of the Entity of Potosí.

Conagua pointed out that no environmental damage or pollution will be caused, since no works of any kind are required and only the floodgates are opened to existing drains and the conditions were accepted under protest of this agreement, prioritizing the Human Right to Water as marked by the National Water Law.

The federal agency detailed that a transfer of two cubic meters per second will be carried out for the lagoon system of Tamaulipas, which in turn supplies drinking water to said cities. The expenses generated, mainly in electrical energy, will be covered by Tamaulipas.

It is worth mentioning that, to address the drought and water shortage in Potosí territory, the El Peaje and El Realito dams were rehabilitated, 2 thousand meters of the El Realito aqueduct were replaced, new wells have been rehabilitated and are planned, cisterns have been distributed to homes that lack storage, workers from operating organizations have been trained, and the long-term operation of free drinking water to homes with pipes remains in force.
