In Mendoza, the item that increased the most was Transportation and Communications with 8.1%. It must be remembered that in May the increase in the price of the bus ticket was finalized, which after increasing more than 100%, now costs $550.

With the data from the fifth month of the year, for which the prices investigated in Greater Mendoza are taken into account, the accumulated inflation so far in 2024 in our province reached 64%.

The year-on-year that is, from May 2023 to May of this yearis 270.5%.

This 4.4% is almost half of the previous month’s figure, which was 7.4%, but it also reflects a clear drop since the beginning of the year. In January it was 19.5%; in February of 12.2% and in March of 9.4%.

After Transportation and Communications, which according to the DEIE had an inflation of 8.1%; they were located Leisure and Education, with 6.9% and very close Other Goods and Services, with 6.7%.

The general level of the Consumer Price Index published by the INDEC registered a monthly increase of 4.2% in May 2024, less than half of the 8.8% that April marked. To find an index of these levels, you have to go to January 2022, when inflation reached 3.9%.

So far this year it has accumulated a variation of 71.9%. In the year-on-year comparison, the increase reached 276.4%.

The government continues to consolidate the decline in inflation, although in the coming months the consulting firms foresee a slight rebound due to rates. The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, said via X that “the ongoing disinflation process deepened.”

At the category level, Seasonal (7.2%) led the increase, followed by Regulated with the help of postponing rates (4%) and the Core CPI (3.7%)

The division with the greatest increase in the month was Communication (8.2%), due to increases in telephone and internet services. They followed Education (7.6%), due to increases at all educational levels, and Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (6.7%) due to the increase in cigarettes.

The division with the highest incidence in all regions was Food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.8%), where the increases in vegetables, tubers and legumes stood out; milk, dairy products and eggs and oils, fats and butter.

The two divisions that recorded the smallest variations in May were Health (0.7%), due to reductions in prepaid medicine fees, and Housing, Water, Electricity and Other Fuels (2.5%).
