More than putting first, the date of this Saturday of the Garciarena It will be “putting octave”, because they will be presenting precisely their eighth album material, The Ferrari of the compass. An EP that includes two video clips and four songs – all produced by Guido Iacopetti – and with the participation of guests such as Lito Vitale, Ariel Ardit, Black Rodríguez Méndez, the notable percussionist Ximena Gallina (from Delio Valdez) and the string quartet Azabache Tango. The appointment is at the Margarita Xirgú theater (Chacabuco 875) at 8:30 p.m., with a stage set up especially for the occasion and with which guest musicians and dancers will play, in addition to the surprise interventions they anticipate.
“It is the second time we go to Xirgú,” says Martín “el Pitu” Frontera, one of the group’s leaders. tangocarnivalera, who knows how to make every presentation a party. “The first time we worked everything as if it were inside/outside a bar,” she recalls. “This time, since the name of the EP is The Ferrari of the Compassand there is no Ferrari more nineties and ours than the black one from Diego, which more than a car is a culture of Argentina, and in which we feel absolutely represented, in that dynamic we are going to put together a kind of patio of those that brought together to the whole family, to friends, and to play with those colors, with those costumes,” proposes Pitu.
“Many of the artists who recorded the EP are going to be live, we are also going to have dancers, as always, not only from murga, but also from other genres, such as flamenco and other disciplines,” he anticipates. The tango string quartet Azabache will join the party, adding another sonic dimension to the usual percussion, accordion, bandoneon and guitar proposal of Los Garciarena.
Beyond finding the entire presentation from last year on the same stage on YouTube, they parked this Ferrari with their own video clip, in which a small gathering between friends turns into a high-profile neighborhood party. Unique location, but gregarious spirit. “In the video clip you have a group of people who come to participate in a party, and the party is simply our rehearsal in which one comes from work, another from studying, or from playing ball, one falls with his son, then there is everything the color of everyday life, because in the video clip we want to describe that from the Buenos Aires archetype, or in this case, Argentine“, account.
“From the color palette, from the austere, we with so little have so much belonging, we are so happy! It is a song but it represents a lot to us, for the simple reason of meeting friends, that is why we chose it to represent this EP, because it is also very high, a cumbia-milonga, that plays with those rhythmic cells, and puts the level of the heart with which we try to go through these very complicated moments for culture, for artists and for work.”
Although some songs from this EP have been in the Garciarena repertoire for some time, they had never recorded them. They were a kind of unfinished account and to settle it the group called Guido Iacopetti, a rising producer on the tango and popular music circuit. Although Iacopetti is usually associated with new tango (he is the director of Sexteto Fantasma and produced, among others, works by Eliana Sosa), he also works with folkloric genres and popular rhythms. “We were very satisfied, Guido is a friend, but above all, calling him was working with someone who looks at us from the outside, who sees our work and can add another nuance to it, give it another twist,” says Frontera.
“There are a lot of guests,” highlights Frontera, who starts listing and doesn’t seem to finish. The names of Lito Vitale, Black Rodríguez Méndez, Ximena Gallina and others stand out. “It was a very cool job, we also wanted to give it that particularity of feat which is being used a lot, and look for different exponents of other genres who are willing to work with us, with this Buenos Aires carnival hybrid that we have in the Garciarena. The Xirgú event, then, will be another way to start the engine, but without leaving anyone behind.
