Colombian lawyer Rosa Emelina Peralta Fernández was found dead at her residence in Hondón de las Nieves, Alicante, Spain. On June 10, the body of the 38-year-old woman was found with signs of mechanical asphyxiation. Until now, more details are unknown. Spanish authorities are investigating what happened.

The information that has emerged is that the woman, originally from Fonseca, La Guajira, moved six months ago to the European continent, in the company of her husband and three minor children, in search of better life opportunities. In the midst of a community in mourning, her relatives and acquaintances hope that the body will be repatriated soon, so that her funeral can be carried out.

The media that reported on the death mentioned that there is no clarity regarding the chain of events that culminated in her death, but some messages from close people have circulated, such as this one: “May the death of my cousin not go unpunished. She would never have attacked herself. She was a very focused woman. Peace on her grave.”

In statements to the newspaper Time, Peralta Fernández’s brother asked the authorities for help to clarify the facts and even pointed out that “if the husband is responsible for my sister’s death, then let him pay (…). It could be a femicide, which is something very delicate currently. The authorities are the ones who will have to confirm whether this was the case or not.” In said dialogue he assured that “it was not suicide” and that there is a history of family violence.

The case of a Colombian missing in Spain

Colombian-American Ana María Henao has been missing since February 2, when she was last seen entering a building where she lived in Madrid. The Spanish Police assure that the main suspect is her husband, the Serbian citizen David Knezevich, who has just pleaded not guilty to the crime of kidnapping, the only one that the Prosecutor’s Office has formulated against him based on the evidence. Due to the nature of the case, the authorities denied him bail.

She, 40 years old, was in the process of separating after 13 years of marriage. The couple had a technology services company and other properties. According to the court file, Knezevich opposed an equitable division of the assets, which aggravated the conflict.
