The Municipality of Santa Fe, through the Directorate of Rights and Citizen and Institutional Liaison and the Directorate of Older Adults, held this Saturday afternoon a day of awareness and good treatment towards old age and senior citizens together with the provincial government. The event took place in La Redonda until 6 p.m., located in Salvador del Carril and Belgrano.
The day will consist of awareness-raising, recreational, recreational and sports activities. The Municipality will have a space run by the Geriatric Observatory where the activities carried out by both areas will be disseminated, illustrative brochures for the day in question will be delivered and a present will be given to attendees.
According to the Latin American Convention on the protection of the Human Rights of Older Persons, it is: “Action or omission, single or repeated, against an older person that causes damage to their physical, mental and moral integrity and that violates the enjoyment or exercise of their human rights and fundamental freedoms.”
Elder abuse is a global social problem that affects the health and human rights of millions of older people around the world.
The forms of abuse are direct abuse (physical, mental, emotional or sexual, abuse of trust in economic matters, neglect), and indirect abuse (cultural, old age, infantilization), among others.
Good treatment is universal, the result of respect for rights, respect for the dignity of the person, giving and receiving good treatment has no age, it is a positive form of relationship, consideration, recognition, it implies recognizing the other as equal. In this sense, the focus must be placed on the individual, community and institutional assessment and recognition of older adults; communication; personal autonomy; quality of life and well-being; equality; identity; freedom and dignity.
