Writer and wine critic for Robert Parker’s publication ‘The Wine Advocate’, Luis Gutiérrez, has traveled through time with iconic wines from CVNE, Gómez Cruzado, La Rioja Alta SA, Bodegas Bilbaínas-Viña Pomal, MUGA and Bodegas RODA in a musical tasting before nearly 200 attendees, who have enjoyed a tour through seven decades of the Barrio de la Estación in Haro, in the ‘Marquee’ of Bodegas Bilbaínas-Viña Pomal as a stage.

Luis Gutiérrez’s masterful tasting has offered an incomparable experience for wine lovers to enjoy cult brands, some with more than a century of history, in vintages that are mostly no longer available on the market. Pancrudo 2021 and Montes Obarenes 2016, by Gómez Cruzado; Gran Reserva 904 2005 and Gran Reserva 890 1981, from La Rioja Alta, SA; RODA I 1997, from Bodegas RODA; Prado Enea Gran Reserva 1970, by Muga; Viña Pomal Gran Reserva 1966, from Bodegas Bilbaínas-Viña Pomal and Viña Real Gran Reserva 1962, from CVNE, have been the wines chosen by Luis Gutiérrez to delve into seven decades of tradition and modernity of the Barrio de la Estación, with an eclectic musical selection : from Adele and Green Day to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, passing through Simon & Garfunkel.

The ‘Maquinista’ of La Cata del Barrio de la Estación in 2024 has awakened olfactory, sound and visual memories, through emblematic wines from the Barrio de la Estación wineries, placing them in the historical context in which they were made. In conversation with the winemakers, he has deciphered how the wines are a testimony of a vintage and the society in which they were born.

Always with the purpose of doing a different tasting that allows a different perception of the wines, Luis Gutiérrez has linked the harvests and social, economic and cultural events, and has touched upon figures from politics, cinema, music or the sport that are part of the collective memory, playing with time.

The tasting with Luis Gutiérrez was preceded by a concert with his band ‘The Winedrinkers’ in the gardens of Bodegas Bilbaínas-Viña Pomal. In parallel, a harmonized cocktail was held in this environment with different wines from the CVNE, Bodegas Bilbaínas-Viña Pomal, Gómez Cruzado, La Rioja Alta SA, Muga and Bodegas RODA wineries.

The event is the prelude to the Barrio de la Estación Tasting, which takes place this Saturday, June 15, in this enclave of Haro, the largest concentration of century-old wineries in the world, as the great celebration of food and wine to enjoy prestigious wines. of the Station District and the proposals of six Michelin star restaurants.
