Spain hit the table and beat Croatia 3-0 this Saturday at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, in a match corresponding to the first date in Group B of Euro 2024. Álvaro Morata, Fabián Ruiz and Dani Caravajal scored the goals from La Furia.
From the opening whistle, Spain controlled the match, although their opening of the scoreboard would come not from a collective play but from a counterattack, which Morata did not forgive when he was one-on-one with Livakovic.
Two minutes later Ruiz extended that advantage by leaving three men in the way inside the Balkan area. In the last play of the first half, Lamine Yamal assisted Dani Caravajal to transform the victory into a rout.
In the complement Croatia had the opportunity to score from the 12 steps. Petkovic took charge of the execution but his shot was saved by Unai Simón although he converted a rebound that was invalidated due to invasion of the area.
Italy suffered, but won
Italy, the last champion of the Euro Cup, beat Albania 2-1 at Signal Iduna Park, in a game corresponding to the opening chapter of Group B. Nedim Bajrami put Las Águilar ahead. Alessandro Bastoni and Nicolo Barella scored the goals for the Azzurra.
The Argentine Mateo Retegui entered the complement for Italy. The former Boca and Tigre attacker, among other teams, came onto the scene in the 82nd minute to replace Gianluca Scamacca.
For Zone A of the Euro Cup
On the other hand, Switzerland defeated Hungary 3-1 at the Rhein Energie stadium, in Group A. The goals were from Duah, Aebischer and Embolo for Switzerland and Varga scored for Hungary.
